In today’s business world, maintaining a personal brand is important, whether you are an employee or an entrepreneur. Becoming a leader in your chosen niche opens doors you never expected to open and creates opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t exist.
Here are five strategies for building a personal brand and how you can implement them in your own life.
1. Create valuable, engaging content
To brand yourself effectively, you need to get your name out there. One of the best ways to do this is to create content that will be helpful to people in your chosen area. You can begin this process by getting active in online communities within your niche, answering people’s questions, providing advice, and helping others wherever you can.
In the longer term, you need to build your own community. This can be done through a podcast, YouTube channel, blog, or Instagram account, depending on the type of content you’re best at creating. You can also create a Facebook group or forum website that will allow others to post much of the content while you are moderating.

2. Write a book
Having a book relevant to your niche is a great marketing tool. As you build your online content, learn what questions, challenges, and topics pop up on a regular basis. You can use this as a starting point for a topic for a book. Don’t assume that you are not qualified to write a book. Knowing your field well can certainly help the less experienced or the wider public understand it.
Amazon offers you the option of self-publishing books and having them printed if necessary. This reduces the cost of creating a book. Once created, your book is an amazing “calling card”. Imagine giving someone a copy of your book at a networking event instead of an easy-to-lose piece of paper!

Speak at events whenever you have the opportunity. Initially, these may only be small, communal meetings. You should definitely film these speeches and use them on social media. It can be difficult to speak in front of people, so join groups where you can practice in front of a friendly audience. As your confidence grows, expand your reach.
Speaking at events is a great way to build your profile directly on the audience you’re speaking to, and it’s also a way to establish yourself as an expert. There may be regular monthly clubs or groups in your area that are constantly looking for speakers. Contact as many as you can and offer your services. Take the opportunity to offer as much value as possible instead of promoting your services. If you provide helpful information in an engaging manner, you will quickly get a lot of the floor.

4. Educate yourself
If you want to be an expert in your field, keep learning yourself. Attend events from other experts, read as many books as you can, and pay for as much training as you can. Find the people in your industry who have achieved the results you want and follow them.
Learning is never over. You need to be ahead of the developments in your field so that you can pass the information on to those who follow you. This is the best way to ensure that you are a “go to” employee in your industry. Investing in education for those who are already doing what you want to do will pay off across the board.
5. Narrow your niche
Depending on your level of experience and awareness, and the size of the industry you are in, you may need to narrow down your niche. For example, it can be difficult to get known as an expert in social media marketing in general. However, if you have specific skills in social media marketing, it will be easier to be known as an expert in this sub-community. Maybe you’re an expert at helping personal injury attorneys get more clients on Instagram, or maybe you can help course creators grow sales through the Clubhouse app. No matter who you are, if you are experienced in what you do, there is a niche you can lead in. Find that niche and tell the world!
If you want to build your brand, you need to get known in your industry. This can be done via a mixture of real-world and online methods. It is important that you stand out from the crowd and offer real value if you want to be considered an expert. Advertising and self-promotion are not enough. However, if you offer amazing value to your community, you will soon have a following, and that following can be used in ways you could never have imagined.
