Bravely Default Mobile spin-off launches in Japan this month

Square Enix has announced the Japanese release date for its upcoming single player spin-off, Bravely Default. Bravely Default Brilliant Lights, with the mobile-only RPG releasing January 27th on Android and IOS devices.

Bravely Default Brilliant Lights will take place on three different continents, with Luxendarc from Bravely Default, Excillent from Bravely Default 2, and a brand new area called Vermelho. Written by Keiichi Ajiro and featuring music by Revo, the game will feature the franchise’s signature Bravely Default system, with battles, jobs, and abilities all optimized for mobile play.

A detailed digital manual has surfaced online ahead of release day and, if you can read Japanese, it’s jam-packed with character descriptions and combat guides, as well as some nice maps and screenshots of the game in action.

As for a Western release of this latest adventure in the Bravely Default series, well, there hasn’t been any word so far, but we’ll definitely keep you posted should that change. For now though, you’ll have to settle for watching the official trailer above, browsing through some official press details and screenshots below, and maybe heading to this online guide to study a few more in-game visuals.

Strategic battles using the “Brave & Default” system – The combat system uses the series’ traditional “Brave & Default” system, optimized for smartphones for the first time. The system consists of the offensive Brave, which allows up to four actions per turn, and the defensive Default, which allows you to save actions for Brave.
