It is the future and you live on a space station in the great afterlife! But the future is bad, and you are just a human consciousness in a failing artificial body owned by a corporation that wants you back. So it goes in Citizen Sleeper, a science fiction slice of life RPG announced this week by the creator of In Other Waters. Anyway, I’m ready to visit a remote lawless space station to make a living, thwart a corporation, and maybe even make some friends. Check out the announcement trailer below.
That looks good. One of the more exciting games I saw at E3. Love a bit of dystopian posthuman life. And in the game, etc.
It will go on day in and day out, deciding where to go, what to do, what systems to hack, who to speak to or help out, etc. and events in the lives of others. You know, a bit like Persona, but in the future and with the dogs of space capitalism nibbling your carbon fiber heels. It’s also tabletop-y enough for dice rolls, which in my opinion are thrown at the beginning of a cycle, then we have to decide where to best apply that pool of numbers. In my opinion?
Citizen Sleeper is coming to Steam in 2022, and this store page explains more.
It’s from Jump Over The Age, Gareth Damian Martin’s one-man studio. He Remarks this character art comes from comic book author Guillaume Singelin and the music from Amos Roddy (who also composed for In Other Waters).
Alice Bees In Other Waters review said it was “really, really good,” meditative and calming, and “possibly just what you need right now.” That was March 2020 and I honestly don’t know how I would update the sentiment for June 2021.
Disclosure: Gareth Damian Martin wrote for us about the eerie Palace of Echo a few years ago.
