Haunted Chocolatier is the next RPG from the Stardew Valley developer

The developers of Stardew Valley have revealed their next game: Haunted Chocolatier. It’s back to a game about moving to a new town to “try a new way of life” but instead of a farm, you open a ghost-occupied chocolate shop. There’s an adorable trailer below.

I wasn’t the world’s biggest fan of Stardew’s pixel art, but the snowy, cozy landscape here is beautiful.

If you’re a big Stardew Valley fan it looks like there will be a lot of familiar things to know. You arrive in a new town, explore, talk to townspeople, seemingly win their affection with gifts, and at the same time brew chocolate to sell in your store.

The game’s official page has a few more details on where exactly it differs from Eric Barone’s previous game. Above all, that “Haunted Chocolatier is more of an action RPG compared to Stardew Valley.” In the video above there are quite a few animals and sentient leeks with sticks that sometimes drop ingredients that you can use in your work.

We also see players brewing chocolate, building their stores, displaying their wares, and inviting customers. You will also explore a haunted castle.

“In Stardew Valley, the focus was more modest: living on the land, growing food, and connecting with the people and nature around you,” writes Barone. “However, with my next game I wanted to explore even more fantastic possibilities … experiences that take you beyond the ordinary.

Just like with Stardew, Barone aka ConcernedApe says he’s working on the game alone and currently has no plans to hire other developers. He also writes that it is “relatively early in development” with no estimate of its release date.
