How to get Android apps on Windows 11

With the release of Windows 11, Microsoft let users know that they will be able to easily install Android apps on their PCs at some point in the future. Well, that time has come! This guide will walk you right through how to download Android apps on your Windows 11 PC.

What Android apps are available for download in Windows 11?

Microsoft recently announced that there are currently over 1,000 apps available to install on your Windows 11 PC. There weren’t nearly as many apps during testing because the feature was so new to Windows and wasn’t available to the general public.

Luckily, there’s now a proper selection ranging from games to reading apps, some of which are a great match for Windows 11. On the other side of this coin, there is no Play Store or support for apps that require Google Plays services.

Download Android apps on Windows 11

As simple as it sounds, there are a few initial steps that need to be completed before downloading Android apps on Windows 11. First, make sure you have the latest version of Windows installed on your PC (Public Preview Build 1.8.32837.0). You should also ensure that the Microsoft Store is updated to the latest version. You can do this by going to Microsoft Store > Library > Get updates.

Since Android apps aren’t available directly from the Microsoft Store – contrary to what the marketing might suggest – you’ll need to install a separate Windows app to access the thousands of promised Android apps. That’s how it’s done:

  1. In Windows 11, press beginning and search Microsoft store. Click on it when you find it.
  2. From the store, Click the search bar and type Amazon Appstore.
  3. If you find Amazon App Storeclick on it and start the installation process.
    • You may be told here that you need to enable something called “Virtualization” in your BIOS. See below for details.
  4. You will see a pop-up window asking you to download something called Windows subsystem for Android. blow Download.
    • This is a required installation, but you don’t need to check the box that allows Microsoft access to diagnostic data.
  5. click Yes when asked if you allow this app to make changes.
  6. Once the download is complete, click Open the Amazon App Store in the popup.
  7. After a brief loading screen, you must Sign in with your Amazon account.

Once you’re signed in, prepare your PC for Android apps. This process only needs to be done once, so don’t worry about repeating these steps over and over again. Downloading Android apps from the Amazon Appstore is pretty easy. That’s how it’s done:

  1. Open the Amazon App Store apartment
  2. Find an app you want to install and click on it for a detailed view.
  3. click Will to start installing the app.
    • Note: Alternatively, you can also click Will on the app preview photo.
  4. click Open minded on the app you installed.

Once done, you can start using your new Android app on Windows 11 right away. Most apps seem to be ported for PC controls for obvious reasons and use keyboard buttons instead of touch controls.

What is virtualization and why do I need to enable it?

As you can imagine, running Android apps on Windows is made possible by running a virtual machine within the operating system. Virtualization is a way of allowing one CPU to act as multiple CPUs, in a manner of speaking, and is required for your Windows 11 PC to run Android apps. Here’s a tutorial if you get stuck with this step.

This doesn’t apply to everyone, only to users with computers that may not have been Windows 11 capable when they were built.

Where can I find installed Android apps?

After downloading any Android app from Amazon Appstore on Windows 11, you can easily find it. Just go to the start menuand click All apps to browse through your apps and programs. Alternatively, you can search from the Start menu if you know what you’re looking for. Windows 11 doesn’t allow Start menu folders, so there is currently no easy solution to organize your Android apps.

Microsoft will continue to prepare more Android apps for Windows 11 over time and improve the process. Enjoy gaming and reading ebooks on your favorite Android apps in Windows 11!
