As revealed by diversity, the streamer had unveiled extensive rollout plans from October, which are supported by a 40-strong new original board.
At the start in Canada, the eight-part series “Tabbar” (Family) will be directed by. to be available Ajitpal Singh, whose debut film “Fire in the mountains” had his World premiere at Sundance earlier this year.
“Tabbar” plays the Singh family’s journey in and around Jalandhar, Punjab, and shows how their lives take a 360-degree turn after an unfortunate incident. The cast includes Pavan Malhotra, Supriya Pathak, Gagan Arora, Paramvir Singh Cheema, Kanwaljeet Singh and Ranvir Shorey.
“I am always drawn to the stories that tell me [with] Opportunities and freedom to explore subtexts and topics. ‘Tabbar’ is such a story, ”says Singh diversity. “It’s a thriller on the surface, but if you dig deeper it’s a human drama and you find topics like God versus no God, evil versus good and drugs, along with spirituality and suffering. I was confident that I would be able to make this story in a very refreshing way if I was given freedom, especially because I also come from Punjab and understand this country very well. “
Written by Harman Wadala and Sandeep Jain, the series is produced by Ajay G. Rai of JAR Pictures.
Ashish Golwalkar, Head of Content for Sony Entertainment Television, SonyLIV and Sony Pictures Networks India, said, “The story offers a great mix of talent and storytelling in an unprecedented narrative. We hope that, like our previous offers, ‘Tabbar’ will revive our promise to bring varied stories from the heart of India to life. ‘Tabbar’ is set in the background of Punjab and we are sure that our viewers will be captivated by their screens. “
Tabbar will also be available in 28 global territories including the European Union, the United Kingdom, the Middle East and North Africa, Singapore, Australia, India and New Zealand.
In 2013, SonyLIV, a division of Sony Pictures Networks India, was the first premium VOD service to be launched in India. Hit originals for the service include Hansal Mehta’s “Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story,” the true life story of a stockbroker who played the system, and the political drama series “Maharani” starring Huma Qureshi (“Army of the Dead”).
