Shelling in Kyiv destroys a shopping mall, leaving at least six dead

Moscow’s claim that it fired hypersonic missiles at western Ukraine is “probably intended to distract from the lack of progress by Russian forces on the ground,” the British defense attaché said.

AVM Mick Smeath said: “Mod of Defense Intelligence notes that Russia has claimed it fired a series of ‘hypersonic’ missiles at targets in western Ukraine.

“If that’s true, it was probably the Kinzhal; an airborne ballistic missile system based on the Iskander ballistic missile, itself already heavily used by Russian forces in their attack on Ukraine.

“Russian claims of using the developmental Kinzhal are most likely intended to distract from a lack of progress in Russia’s ground campaign.

“It is highly unlikely that the deployment of Kinzhal will materially affect the outcome of the Russian campaign in Ukraine.”

It comes as the Kremlin has reportedly warned the US ambassador that Moscow is on the verge of severing ties between the nations.

The warning to US Ambassador John Sullivan on Monday morning as Russia continues its attack on Ukraine amid tough US sanctions, Reuters reports.

More than 900 civilians killed in Ukraine, says UN

A total of 925 civilian deaths have been recorded in Ukraine since the Russian invasion began last month, the UN Human Rights Office said on Monday.

The civilian casualties include 11 girls, 25 boys and 39 other children whose gender is unknown, OHCHR said in a statement.

At least 1,496 civilians were injured in the ongoing siege, the UN body said.

It added that the actual number of casualties and injuries are likely to be “significantly higher,” particularly in recent days, “as the receipt of information from some locations where intense hostilities were taking place has been delayed and many reports are still pending Wait for confirmation”.

“Most of the recorded civilian casualties were caused by the use of long-range explosive weapons, including heavy artillery fire and multiple-missile systems, as well as missile and airstrikes,” it said.

Russia’s efforts have been repulsed, says Zelenskyy

Ukrainian forces have managed to hold off Russian troops during the invasion for almost a month, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video message.

Mr Zelensky said while Russian troops tried to advance “slowly” in parts of Ukraine, their efforts had been repulsed and their forces “restricted”.

Referring to Russian fighter pilots who have attacked Ukraine from the air with missiles and bombing, Zelenskyy said: “They definitely have emptiness instead of heart. Instead of a soul. Instead of everything that makes people human.”

He added that his troops shot down another Russian plane in the Kharkiv region.

Biden says Putin is considering using chemical weapons in Ukraine

Russia’s false accusations that Kyiv possesses biological and chemical weapons show that Russian President Vladimir Putin is considering using them himself in his war against Ukraine and the US. That’s what President Joe Biden said Monday without citing any evidence.

Putin’s “back is against the wall and now he’s talking about new false flags he’s putting up, including claims that we in America have both biological and chemical weapons in Europe, which is simply not true,” Mr Biden said at one Event at the Business Roundtable.

“They also suggest that Ukraine has biological and chemical weapons in Ukraine. This is a clear sign that he is considering using both.”

The Russian embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The comments echoed previous statements by officials in Washington and allied countries who accused Russia of disseminating an unsubstantiated claim that Ukraine has a biological weapons program as a possible prelude to its possible launch of biological or chemical attacks.

The Russian Defense Ministry has accused Kyiv of planning a chemical weapons attack against its own people without providing evidence, accusing Moscow of using chemical weapons in the invasion of Ukraine that began on February 24.

Earlier this month, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke to Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev, warning him of the consequences of “any possible Russian decision to use chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine.” The White House has not specified what the consequences will be.

Putin used hypersonic missiles “to distract from a stalled invasion,” the UK claims

Moscow’s claim that it fired hypersonic missiles at western Ukraine is “probably intended to distract from the lack of progress by Russian forces on the ground,” the British defense attaché said.

Biden says Putin used hypersonic missile in Ukraine because his back is against the wall.

According to Joe Biden, Russian President Vladimir Putin is resorting to extreme tactics because he “has his back against the wall”, including using hypersonic missiles in Ukraine.

“Putin has his back against the wall,” Mr. Biden said in a remark on Monday. “He did not foresee the extent or strength of our unity. And the more his back is against the wall, the tighter the tactics he can employ.”

Alexei Navalny’s allies claim Vladimir Putin owns a £500million superyacht moored in Italy

A video shared online by allies of Alexi Navalny claims that a $700m (£500m) superyacht off the west coast of Italy belongs to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The six-deck Scheherezade features a spa, beauty salon, gym and two helipads. It also houses a swimming pool equipped with a retractable cover that turns into a dance floor, reports say. But missing a listed owner has landed the vessel in Marina di Carrara under the control of Italian authorities amid a recent raid on luxury yachts owned by oligarchs.

On 8th of March, The New York Times spoke to the ship’s captain – a Briton named Guy Bennett-Pearce. He denied that Putin ever owned or entered the Scheherezade. “I never saw him. I never met him,” he told the newspaper.

Days later, Mr Bennett-Pearce said he had “no choice” but to reveal the identity of the owner to Italian police, adding: “I have no doubt that this will clear the ship of all negative rumors and speculation.” .”

However, in a sensational video shared today by Navalny’s YouTube channel, presenters Georgy Alburov and Maria Pevchikh claimed to reveal that half of the ship’s crew – apart from Mr Bennett-Pearce – belong to the Federal Protection Service (FSO), which operates as a “the agency that protects Putin and organizes his life.”

As the European Union has imposed several personal sanctions on the Russian leader, the superyacht – should it be revealed that he owns it – could be seized by the authorities.
