TEXARKANA, Texas – The mood was high at the Texarkana Radio Control Flying Club’s Fly-In 2021 on Saturday.
The runway was cleared at Ravel Stroman Field near Lake Wright Patman and Airmen from the Four States Area joined the R / C pilots on Friday and Saturday.
The field, named after one of the club’s founding members, offers RC pilots a place to enjoy camaraderie with fellow pilots. TRCFC, which was founded in the early 1980s, is proud of this.
The association was founded in 1972.

“The first asphalt airport was built here in the early 1990s,” said Club Vice President Corey Ashley. “We also installed the chain link fence barrier and parking lot at that time.”
Over time, improvements were made, such as an improved, longer runway, shelters and other structures. Now it’s a small airport that has a developed mini-arena and a showcase for R / C fliers from all over the world.
The hobby of remote-controlled airplanes today faces competition from high-tech distractions.
“Sure, teenagers can be drawn to the simple attraction of computer screens,” said Paco Ritter, club secretary. “But there is nothing that matches the appeal of real flying. And when you get a chance, some young people discover our hobby and want to try it out. Although the high end is expensive, some dedicated fliers are giving up to $ 80,000 for their planes, the low end is much cheaper, with a kit costing $ 100 or less. “
The pilots who come to each other’s events can also enjoy the joy of flying with RC pilots from all over the world.
“I like to travel everywhere to air shows,” said Greg Skinner of Oscar, Oklahoma. “This is my fourth time at the Texarkana R / C Fly-In. It’s a great bunch. And I love this hobby. It’s fun, good friends meet and have a great hobby.”
